Others were tortured, not accepting deliverance, that they might obtain a better resurrection (Hebrews 11:35, NKJV).Whenever I had read this in the past, my understanding had always been that when they refused to be released, that it was simply an option they had, to be released, but because they could have a better resurrection by being tortured further, that they did not. I assumed that better resurrection was more eternal reward in heaven because they had been tortured.
And all the people went their way to eat and drink and to send portions and to make great rejoicing, because they had understood the words that were declared to them (Nehemiah 8:12).

I have wondered about Hebrews 11:35 before, and since it was part of today's reading, I decided to read some commentary on the verse.
