Psalm 132-135; 1 Corinthians 8

From today's Bible reading:

Psalm 133:

Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity!

there the LORD has commanded the blessing, life forevermore.

Psalm 134:

Come, bless the LORD, all you servants of the LORD, who stand by night in the house of the LORD!

Lift up your hands to the holy place and bless the LORD!

Psalm 135:

Praise the LORD! Praise the name of the LORD,

give praise, O servants of the LORD, who stand in the house of the LORD, in the courts of the house of our God!

Praise the LORD, for the LORD is good; sing to his name, for it is pleasant!

I know that the LORD is great, and that our Lord is above all gods.

Whatever the LORD pleases, he does, in heaven and on earth, in the seas and all deeps.

He it is who makes the clouds rise at the end of the earth, who makes lightnings for the rain

He ... brings forth the wind from his storehouses.

Those who make [idols] become like [idols], so do all who trust in them!

1 Corinthians 8:

Now concerning food offered to idols...

If anyone imagines that he knows something, he does not yet know as he ought to know.

if anyone loves God, he is known by God.

there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist,

... and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist.

Food will not commend us to God. We are no worse off if we do not eat, and no better off if we do.

sinning against your brothers and wounding their conscience when it is weak, you sin against Christ.
