Psalm 145-147; 1 Corinthians 11

From today's Bible reading:

Psalm 145:

I will extol you, my God and King, and bless your name forever and ever.

Every day I will bless you and praise your name forever and ever.

Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised, and his greatness is unsearchable.

One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts.

On the glorious splendor of your majesty, and on your wondrous works, I will meditate.

The LORD is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.

The LORD is good to all, and his mercy is over all that he has made.

All your works shall give thanks to you, O LORD, and all your saints shall bless you!

Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures throughout all generations.

The LORD upholds all who are falling and raises up all who are bowed down.

The eyes of all look to you, and you give them their food in due season.

You open your hand; you satisfy the desire of every living thing.

The LORD is righteous in all his ways and kind in all his works.

The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.

He fulfills the desire of those who fear him; he also hears their cry and saves them.

My mouth will speak the praise of the LORD, and let all flesh bless his holy name forever and ever.

Psalm 146:

Praise the LORD! Praise the LORD, O my soul!

I will praise the LORD as long as I live; I will sing praises to my God while I have my being.

Put not your trust in princes, in a son of man, in whom there is no salvation. When his breath departs, he returns to the earth; on that very day his plans perish.

Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD his God, who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, who keeps faith forever; who executes justice for the oppressed, who gives food to the hungry.

Psalm 147:

Praise the LORD! For it is good to sing praises to our God; for it is pleasant, and a song of praise is fitting.

He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.

He determines the number of the stars; he gives to all of them their names.

Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; his understanding is beyond measure.

The LORD lifts up the humble; he casts the wicked to the ground.

Sing to the LORD with thanksgiving; make melody to our God on the lyre!

He covers the heavens with clouds; he prepares rain for the earth; he makes grass grow on the hills.

He gives to the beasts their food, and to the young ravens that cry.

His delight is not in the strength of the horse, nor his pleasure in the legs of a man, but the LORD takes pleasure in those who fear him, in those who hope in his steadfast love.

he strengthens the bars of your gates

He makes peace in your borders

He sends out his command to the earth; his word runs swiftly.

He hurls down his crystals of ice like crumbs; who can stand before his cold?

He sends out his word, and melts them; he makes his wind blow and the waters flow.

He has not dealt thus with any other nation; they do not know his rules.

Praise the LORD!


1 Corinthians 11:

Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.

I want you to understand that the head of every man is Christ, the head of a wife is her husband, and the head of Christ is God.

a man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God,

woman is the glory of man. For man was not made from woman, but woman from man. Neither was man created for woman, but woman for man.

That is why a wife ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels.

in the Lord woman is not independent of man nor man of woman; for as woman was made from man, so man is now born of woman.

all things are from God.

Does not nature itself teach you that if a man wears long hair it is a disgrace for him, but if a woman has long hair, it is her glory?

Psalm 142-144; 1 Corinthians 10

Psalm 142:

With my voice I cry out to the LORD; with my voice I plead for mercy to the LORD.

I pour out my complaint before him; I tell my trouble before him.

When my spirit faints within me, you know my way!

Attend to my cry, for I am brought very low!

Bring me out of prison, that I may give thanks to your name!

The righteous will surround me, for you will deal bountifully with me.

Psalm 143:

Hear my prayer, O LORD; give ear to my pleas for mercy!

I remember the days of old; I meditate on all that you have done; I ponder the work of your hands.

I stretch out my hands to you; my soul thirsts for you like a parched land.

Let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love, for in you I trust.

Make me know the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul.

Teach me to do your will, for you are my God!

Let your good Spirit lead me on level ground!

Psalm 144:

Blessed be the LORD, my rock, who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle

he is my steadfast love and my fortress, my stronghold and my deliverer, my shield and he in whom I take refuge

O LORD, what is man that you regard him, or the son of man that you think of him?

Man is like a breath; his days are like a passing shadow.

Bow your heavens, O LORD, and come down! Touch the mountains so that they smoke!

Flash forth the lightning and scatter them; send out your arrows and rout them!

May our sons in their youth be like plants full grown, our daughters like corner pillars cut for the structure of a palace


1 Corinthians 10:

Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.

what pagans sacrifice they offer to demons and not to God.

I do not want you to be participants with demons.

You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons.

You cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons.

Shall we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than he?

"All things are lawful," but not all things are helpful.

"All things are lawful," but not all things build up.

Let no one seek his own good, but the good of his neighbor.

the earth is the Lord's, and the fullness thereof.

whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

Give no offense to Jews or to Greeks or to the church of God,

I try to please everyone in everything I do, not seeking my own advantage, but that of many, that they may be saved.

Psalm 139-141; 1 Corinthians 10

From today's Bible reading:

Psalm 139:

O LORD, you have searched me and known me!

You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar.

You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways.

Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O LORD, you know it altogether.

you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb.

I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.

Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.

Your eyes saw my unformed substance;

in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.

How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! If I would count them, they are more than the sand.

(God is a thinker!)

Search me, O God, and know my heart!

Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!

Psalm 140:

Deliver me, O LORD, from evil men; preserve me from violent men, who plan evil things in their heart and stir up wars continually

They make their tongue sharp as a serpent's, and under their lips is the venom of asps.

I say to the LORD, You are my God; give ear to the voice of my pleas for mercy, O LORD!

I know that the LORD will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and will execute justice for the needy.

Surely the righteous shall give thanks to your name; the upright shall dwell in your presence.

Psalm 141:

O LORD, I call upon you; hasten to me! Give ear to my voice when I call to you!

Let my prayer be counted as incense before you, and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice!

Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips!

But my eyes are toward you, O GOD, my Lord; in you I seek refuge; leave me not defenseless!


1 Corinthians 10:

they drank from the spiritual Rock that followed them, and the Rock was Christ.

these things took place as examples for us, that we might not desire evil as they did.

We must not indulge in sexual immorality as some of them did, and twenty-three thousand fell in a single day.

Now these things happened to them as an example, but they were written down for our instruction

let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall.

No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man.

God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability

with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

Psalm 136-138; 1 Corinthians 9

Psalm 136:

Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever.

Give thanks to the God of heaven, for his steadfast love endures forever.

Psalm 137:

our captors required of us songs, and our tormentors, mirth, saying, "Sing us one of the songs of Zion!"

How shall we sing the LORD's song in a foreign land?

Let my tongue stick to the roof of my mouth, if I do not remember you, if I do not set Jerusalem above my highest joy!

Blessed shall he be who takes your little ones and dashes them against the rock!

Psalm 138:

I give you thanks, O LORD, with my whole heart; before the gods I sing your praise

I bow down toward your holy temple and give thanks to your name for your steadfast love and your faithfulness,

you have exalted above all things your name and your word.

On the day I called, you answered me; my strength of soul you increased.

All the kings of the earth shall give you thanks, O LORD, for they have heard the words of your mouth,

All the kings of the earth ... shall sing of the ways of the LORD, for great is the glory of the LORD.

For though the LORD is high, he regards the lowly, but the haughty he knows from afar.

Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life;

you stretch out your hand against the wrath of my enemies, and your right hand delivers me.

The LORD will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O LORD, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands.


1 Corinthians 9:

you are the seal of my apostleship in the Lord.3

you are the seal of my apostleship in the Lord.

is it only Barnabas and I who have no right to refrain from working for a living?

Who serves as a soldier at his own expense?

Who plants a vineyard without eating any of its fruit?

the plowman should plow in hope and the thresher thresh in hope of sharing in the crop.

If we have sown spiritual things among you, is it too much if we reap material things from you?

we have not made use of this right, but we endure anything rather than put an obstacle in the way of the gospel of Christ.

the Lord commanded that those who proclaim the gospel should get their living by the gospel.

I have made no use of any of these rights, nor am I writing these things to secure any such provision.

I would rather die than have anyone deprive me of my ground for boasting.

if I preach the gospel, that gives me no ground for boasting.

For necessity is laid upon me. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel!

if I do this of my own will, I have a reward, but if not of my own will, I am still entrusted with a stewardship.

What then is my reward?

That in my preaching I may present the gospel free of charge, so as not to make full use of my right in the gospel.

For though I am free from all, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win more of them.

I have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some.

I do it all for the sake of the gospel, that I may share with them in its blessings.

in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize

So run that you may obtain it.

Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable.

I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.

Psalm 132-135; 1 Corinthians 8

Psalm 133:

Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity!

there the LORD has commanded the blessing, life forevermore.

Psalm 134:

Come, bless the LORD, all you servants of the LORD, who stand by night in the house of the LORD!

Lift up your hands to the holy place and bless the LORD!

Psalm 135:

Praise the LORD! Praise the name of the LORD,

give praise, O servants of the LORD, who stand in the house of the LORD, in the courts of the house of our God!

Praise the LORD, for the LORD is good; sing to his name, for it is pleasant!

I know that the LORD is great, and that our Lord is above all gods.

Whatever the LORD pleases, he does, in heaven and on earth, in the seas and all deeps.

He it is who makes the clouds rise at the end of the earth, who makes lightnings for the rain

He ... brings forth the wind from his storehouses.

Those who make [idols] become like [idols], so do all who trust in them!


1 Corinthians 8:

Now concerning food offered to idols...

If anyone imagines that he knows something, he does not yet know as he ought to know.

if anyone loves God, he is known by God.

there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist,

... and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist.

Food will not commend us to God. We are no worse off if we do not eat, and no better off if we do.

sinning against your brothers and wounding their conscience when it is weak, you sin against Christ.

Psalm 128-131; 1 Corinthians 7

From today's Bible reading:

Psalm 128:

Blessed is everyone who fears the LORD, who walks in his ways!

You shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands; you shall be blessed, and it shall be well with you.

Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your children will be like olive shoots around your table.

Behold, thus shall the man be blessed who fears the LORD.

May you see your children's children! Peace be upon Israel!

Psalm 129:

The blessing of the LORD be upon you! We bless you in the name of the LORD!

Psalm 130:

Out of the depths I cry to you, O LORD! O Lord, hear my voice! Let your ears be attentive to the voice of my pleas for mercy!

If you, O LORD, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand? But with you there is forgiveness, that you may be feared.

I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in his word I hope; my soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen for the morning,

O Israel, hope in the LORD! For with the LORD there is steadfast love, and with him is plentiful redemption.

And he will redeem Israel from all his iniquities.

Psalm 131:

O LORD, my heart is not lifted up; my eyes are not raised too high;

I do not occupy myself with things too great and too marvelous for me.

But I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child is my soul within me.

O Israel, hope in the LORD from this time forth and forevermore.


1 Corinthians 7:

those who marry will have worldly troubles

the appointed time has grown very short.

the present form of this world is passing away.

I want you to be free from anxieties.

The unmarried man is anxious about the things of the Lord, how to please the Lord.

the married man is anxious about worldly things, how to please his wife, and his interests are divided.

the unmarried or betrothed woman is anxious about the things of the Lord, how to be holy in body and spirit.

the married woman is anxious about worldly things, how to please her husband.

whoever is firmly established in his heart, ... having his desire under control, ... he will do well.

So then he who marries his betrothed does well, and he who refrains from marriage will do even better.

Psalm 124-127; 1 Corinthians 7

From today's Bible reading:

Psalm 124:

We have escaped like a bird from the snare of the fowlers; the snare is broken, and we have escaped!

Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth.

Psalm 125:

Those who trust in the LORD are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abides forever.

As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds his people, from this time forth and forevermore.

Peace be upon Israel!

Psalm 126:

When the LORD restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dream.

Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy

The LORD has done great things for us; we are glad.

Those who sow in tears shall reap with shouts of joy!

He who goes out weeping, bearing the seed for sowing, shall come home with shouts of joy, bringing his sheaves with him.

Psalm 127:

Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.

Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.

It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep.

Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward.

Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one's youth. Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them!


1 Corinthians 7:

each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband.

the wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does.

Likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does.

the wife should not separate from her husband

the husband should not divorce his wife.

God has called you to peace.

For how do you know, wife, whether you will save your husband?

Or how do you know, husband, whether you will save your wife?

Only let each person lead the life that the Lord has assigned to him, and to which God has called him.

neither circumcision counts for anything nor uncircumcision, but keeping the commandments of God.

he who was called in the Lord as a slave is a freedman of the Lord.

Likewise he who was free when called is a slave of Christ.

You were bought with a price; do not become slaves of men.

Psalm 120-123; 1 Corinthians 6

Psalm 120:

In my distress I called to the LORD, and he answered me.

Deliver me, O LORD, from lying lips, from a deceitful tongue.

Too long have I had my dwelling among those who hate peace.

I am for peace, but when I speak, they are for war!

Psalm 121:

I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth.

He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber.

Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.

The LORD is your keeper; the LORD is your shade on your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night.

The LORD will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life.

The LORD will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore.

Psalm 122:

I was glad when they said to me, "Let us go to the house of the LORD!"

Jerusalem--built as a city that is bound firmly together

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem!

Psalm 123:

To you I lift up my eyes, O you who are enthroned in the heavens!


1 Corinthians 6:

the saints will judge the world

we are to judge angels

the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God

you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

"All things are lawful for me," but not all things are helpful.

"All things are lawful for me," but I will not be enslaved by anything.

The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.

God raised the Lord and will also raise us up by his power.

Flee from sexual immorality.

Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body.

your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God

You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.

Psalm 119; 1 Corinthians 5

From yesterday's Bible reading:

Psalm 119:

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

Accept my freewill offerings of praise, O LORD, and teach me your rules.

I hate the double-minded, but I love your law.

You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in your word.

It is time for the LORD to act, for your law has been broken.

I open my mouth and pant, because I long for your commandments.

My eyes shed streams of tears, because people do not keep your law.

I rise before dawn and cry for help; I hope in your words.

Psalm 119; 1 Corinthians 4

Psalm 119:

Remember your word to your servant, in which you have made me hope.

your promise gives me life.

I remember your name in the night, O LORD, and keep your law.

At midnight I rise to praise you, because of your righteous rules.

I am a companion of all who fear you, of those who keep your precepts.

The earth, O LORD, is full of your steadfast love; teach me your statutes!

Teach me good judgment and knowledge, for I believe in your commandments.

Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I keep your word.

It is good for me that I was afflicted, that I might learn your statutes.

The law of your mouth is better to me than thousands of gold and silver pieces.

Your hands have made and fashioned me; give me understanding that I may learn your commandments.

Those who fear you shall see me and rejoice, because I have hoped in your word.

My soul longs for your salvation; I hope in your word.

In your steadfast love give me life, that I may keep the testimonies of your mouth.

Forever, O LORD, your word is firmly fixed in the heavens.

I have seen a limit to all perfection, but your commandment is exceedingly broad.

Oh how I love your law! It is my meditation all the day.

How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!

Through your precepts I get understanding; therefore I hate every false way.


1 Corinthians 4:

This is how one should regard us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God.

Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found trustworthy.

It is the Lord who judges me.

the Lord comes, who will bring to light the things now hidden in darkness and will disclose the purposes of the heart.

learn by us not to go beyond what is written, that none of you may be puffed up in favor of one against another.

To the present hour we hunger and thirst, we are poorly dressed and buffeted and homeless, and we labor, working

the kingdom of God does not consist in talk but in power.

Blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the LORD!
How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word.

8:10 AM 1 Corinthians 3:
God gave the growth.
8:11 AM You are God's field, God's building.
no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
8:12 AM each one's work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire
the fire will test what sort of work each one has done.
8:13 AM If the work that anyone has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward.
If anyone's work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire.
Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you?
God's temple is holy, and you are that temple.
8:14 AM If anyone among you thinks that he is wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise.
the wisdom of this world is folly with God.
8:16 AM For all things are yours, ... all are yours, and you are Christ's, and Christ is God's.
